When I began quilting, I didn’t know any other quilters. I didn’t know how to go about meeting them either. Because I’m an early adopter of technology, I was already online, so I took advantage of the internet to help me. I found a group and it turned out that one quilter who posted regularly, Sharon, lived not too far from me – about a 25-minute drive. She invited me to come to her house for a casual gathering of quilting friends.
Big studios and sewing rooms are eye candy for many of us quilters, who can only dream of having so much room. Reality often dictates that we have a much smaller dedicated sewing space or we have to carve out a good time to use the dining room or kitchen table. Regardless of where you do your cutting and sewing, there are ways you can maximize the space you do have in order to create your lovely quilts.
I enjoy making baby quilts because you can come up with such interesting designs. This Dr. Seuss baby quilt was made with an alphabet panel that I cut up and made off center squares.
Learning how to use a longarm quilting machine is challenging. I’ve been machine quilting for several years and, although I am good at it, using my machine is hard on my neck and shoulders – even with the suspension set up I have. So, I decided to give longarming a try.
