The concept of this wall hanging came to me a few years ago. As with my quilt Beyond the Brick Wall, the image of healing popped into my head out of nowhere. Just as with the Brick Wall, whenever I let my mind wander, the image for healing came back. Each time, it was a bit more defined and after a couple of weeks, I knew I had to make it.
When I first saw this NYC skyline panel, I knew I had to have it. My original intention was to use it for a One Block Wonder quilt – but it turned out that there was too much black to really work.
My wall hanging, Batik Explosion, is my first attempt at a modern art style of quilting. This was the first time that I used a sketch as my base as well. My son’s partner had posted a doodle on her Facebook page and as soon as I saw it, I thought it would look great with colour.
