When I first started quilting, I was on my own. I was self taught, learning new things as I went along. When I was working on a pattern that required half square triangles, I dutifully cut out all the triangles and sewed the blocks together. Sadly, I was not always accurate enough and the blocks turned out wonky, pulling to one side or another. It was only after I’d been quilting for a while that I learned there was a much easier way to make these blocks.
Do mitred corners scare you? Do those Y seams seem too difficult? They really aren’t. You just need someone to show you how to do the seams and then you need to take your time. Once you’ve accomplished your first one, you will see how easy they really are and the difference it can make in how your quilt top looks.
Welcome to Part 5 of our sew along/quilt along. In this video, I show you the quilt top on its frame and we talk about the various options we have when quilting any type of Irish chain quilt.
