Panels Can Make Gorgeous Quilts

Panels Can Make Gorgeous Quilts

Fabric panels have come a long way over the years. It used to be that there were just a few designs that everyone had. But designers have changed that and now, there are so many different panels to fit just about everyone’s taste.

These are a few quilts I’ve made with panels.

The main reason I wasn’t into panels at first was I couldn’t see a way to make these pieces of fabric into originals. The most common ideas were to use panels in attic windows or some similar design. Or you just put a border or two around them. There is nothing wrong with either design and I’ve seen some lovely quilts made this way. But I’m always looking at different ways to present fabric.

I made this video to show you a few panel-centric quilts and wall hangings I made. I don’t have many around, because I often use them as gifts, but I do have some. I decided this would be a good time to show you my thought process behind designing a panel quilt because I’m about to cut one out for my son.

Do you like making quilts with panels? How do you usually make them? I’d love to see photos.

Binding: The Quilter’s Final Touch

When I first started quilting, I didn’t really know how bindings were attached. I learned how to quilt from a book and the binding instructions weren’t too clear. I tried various techniques in those early years but they never seemed to look right. They didn’t look bad, but they just didn’t look right.
