Will Fear of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Cancel Some Quilt Shows?

You can’t turn on the news these days without seeing news of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. Some quilters have mentioned that they are concerned about upcoming quilt shows and if the virus outbreak will affect them. Many large conferences, even health-related ones, have been cancelled. Should we be concerned that the virus will affect quilting activities as well? (update on March 14, 2020: Most gatherings have been cancelled as per group choice, or state or provincial directives)

Why Are Quilts So Expensive?

It may seem that quilts are expensive and if you’re a quilter, chances are at least one person has asked you if you sell your quilts. I know I’m asked that question a lot. Usually my answer was “no,” and I explained that it was just too costly for a handmade quilt for it to be fair to the quilter.

Choosing Your Fabric and Design

What comes first, choosing your fabric or choosing your design? Different quilters will tell you different things. I do both. I often will have fabric that I like and then I’ll find or design a pattern to highlight it. Other times, I see a pattern or I’ll think of a design and I’ll look for fabric that will make the pattern shine.
